Panel: Mainstreaming OERs for Computer Science (CS) and Information Technology (IT) Education

July 25, 11:00 – 12:30 pm, Meeting 103

Open Educational Resources (OER) can provide richer and even less expensive learning experiences for students while also making the teaching experience more fulfilling for instructors, encouraging international collaboration in learning and teaching.

In this panel, Mainstraming OER to Computer Science (CS) and Information Technology (IT) Education, presenters will focus on different areas aligned with recommended actions to mainstream open-licensed educational resources to build the Knowledge Societies described in Ljubljana OER Action Plan 2017.

Edmundo Tovar (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) will present several IEEE Education Society initiatives that promote the creation of OER communities. Tiziana Margaria (University of Limerick and Lero, the Irish Software Research Centre) will describe the structure of CS education preparation in Ireland and the newly introduced University curriculum – a BSc (Education) to prepare CS teachers. Henry Chan (Hong Kong Polytechnic University) will present the MERLOT Computer Science community. Dave Towey (University of Nottingham at Ningbo, China) will present case studies of Student-staff collaboration in OER development. To conclude, Claudio Demartini (Politecnico di Torino) will describe the current “Riconnessioni” project that deals with digital transformation in the education system.
