The 9th IEEE International Workshop on Consumer Devices & Systems (CDS 2021)

Call for Papers

The aim of this workshop is to discuss and advance the state-of-the-art, research and development in the area of consumer devices and systems, and to promote the study of both fundamental and practical aspects of such devices and systems. The workshop addresses researchers from different disciplines in academia and industry, as well as practitioners, who share interests in consumer devices and systems. The focus will be on novel consumer devices and systems, experiences drawn from development of such devices and systems, and emerging technologies for such devices and systems.

Consumer devices and systems have been smarter than before rapidly. Such devices include AV devices, home appliances, home gateways, smart phones, healthcare devices, wearable devices, robots, drones, and other devices so called IoT (Internet of Things) or IoE (Internet of Everything). Such devices have computing and communication functions, and communicate with each other. Networks for consumer devices are also emerging rapidly. However, such networks suffer from incompatibility in many cases. Integrated architecture, protocols and middleware for consumer networks are required for advanced consumer systems, which include lifestyle computing, wellness, sport/fitness, entertainment, communication, medical, security/safety for social network services, and so on. Recently, much attention has been paid to smart home and smart city, and cloud/edge computing supports such applications. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and engineers to present research results in this area

Any submission whose content is relevant to the area of consumer devices and systems will be considered, but any submission whose subject matter is related to one of the following topics will be particularly welcome:

  • Smart Consumer Devices (e.g. Smart Phones, Smart TV, Wellness Device)
  • Novel Architecture, Protocols and Middleware for Consumer Networks
  • Novel Systems and Applications for Consumer Devices
  • IoT and IoE for Smart Home and Smart City
  • Security, Safety and Management Issues for Consumer Devices, Systems and Services
  • IoT Communications for Consumer Devices and Networks
  • Social Network Services for Consumer Devices
  • Emerging Technologies for Consumer Devices and Systems (e.g. Cloud/Edge Computing)

Recommendation to IPSJ CDS Transaction

A few excellent papers will be selected for recommendation as a “Recommendation Paper” to the IPSJ CDS Transactions by the workshop organizers.

Important Dates

Workshop papers due: 21 April 1 May 2021 (UPDATED)

Workshop paper notifications: 15 May 2021

Camera-ready and registration due: 31 May 2021

Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research work, as well as industrial practice reports. Simultaneous submission to other publication venues is not permitted.  In accordance with IEEE policy, submitted manuscripts will be checked for plagiarism. Instances of alleged misconduct will be handled according to the IEEE Publication Services and Product Board Operations Manual.

Please note that in order to ensure the fairness of the review process, COMPSAC follows the double-blind review procedure. Therefore we kindly ask authors to remove their names, affiliations and contacts from the header of their papers in the review version. Please also redact all references to authors’ names, affiliations or prior works from the paper when submitting papers for review. Once accepted, authors can then include their names, affiliations and contacts in the camera-ready revision of the paper, and put the references to their prior works back.

Formatting

Workshop papers are limited to 6 pages. Page limits are inclusive of tables, figures, appendices, and references. Workshop papers can add an additional 2 pages with additional page charges ($250USD/page).

Paper Templates

IEEE Paper templates are available in MS Word 2003 and LaTex. All submissions must use US 8.5×11 letter page format.
